Our Campus

“I lift my eyes unto the hills— from where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2

Our campus is nestled in the hills of Portola Valley. Sweeping views, beautiful redwoods, and a flourishing garden make it a beautiful place to visit, rest, and worship.

A garden with various plants and shrubs in front of a building under trees, with people gathered outside on a sunny day.

Christ Church Portola Valley & Woodside is honored to be part of the Quiet Garden Movement, which encompasses over 300 gardens across 18 countries.

Our Quiet Garden offers a peaceful space filled with beautiful native plants, meandering paths for exploration, and benches for quiet reflection. Towering native redwoods and majestic heritage oaks grace the garden, which is bordered by Open Space and offers easy access to scenic hiking trails. Benches and arbors provide plentiful space for repose, children’s play, and receptions.

Our garden is cultivated and maintained under the direction of Ruth Ann Wrucke.

The Quiet Garden

A tall red bell tower with multiple bells, surrounded by green trees and under a bright blue sky.

Our Bell Tower can be heard throughout the neighborhood and features 34 bells. The original tower was a wooden construction built in 1965. In 1989, the wood was replaced with steel. The installation was completed on the same day as the Loma Prieta earthquake, and the tower weathered the event without damage thanks to the new reinforced steel structure. In 2021, the bells were refurbished and the controller was upgraded to a modern MIDI system. The Bell Tower chimes the hour at noon daily and at 10am on Sundays. On Thursdays at 2pm (coinciding with the start of the PV farmers’ market), you can hear the tower chiming about 5 minutes of well-known hymn tunes. The prelude for our worship is played on the bells on the third Sunday of every month.

A small outdoor bike park with a white bicycle leaning against a brown informational sign, a water fountain, a green bike repair station, and a sandy area with shadows of trees. In the background, a person is riding a bike on a paved road with a few parked cars and large trees.

Our bike station offers the community a place to park their bikes during their visit. It also provides a stop for the thousands of bikers who pass by each week to rest, top off their water, or make repairs.

The bike station was co-sponsored by Christ Church Portola Valley & Woodside, Carillon Preschool, and the Over The Hill Bike Club. The Reverend Matthew McDermott blessed the bike station on Sunday November 16th 2025.

If you would like to post a flyer at the bike station, please contact our parish administrator.

Outdoor dining area with picnic tables covered in red and white checkered tablecloths, set up in a patio outside a building, decorated with potted flowers, with a woman walking nearby and green trees in the background.

Located adjacent to the church and parish hall, our patio overlooks the PV hills. This is an idyllic spot for coffee hour, dinners, parties, and our yearly outdoor blessing-of-the-animals service. The patio is also fully fenced in, providing a safe space for children’s exploration and play.

If you would like to rent the patio for your upcoming event,
please contact our parish administrator.

A wooded area with tall trees, a paved pathway, a wooden bench, and a dark-colored building with windows.

Our Columbarium, where ashes of the departed are interred, was dedicated in 1970. It is a beautiful resting place among the redwoods on the east side of the nave.

Niches are available and may be reserved in your preferred location.

Decorated banquet hall for a celebration with hanging pink and red balloon clusters, tables set with plates, napkins folded into shapes, glasses, and small pink decorations, in a room with wood-paneled ceiling and large windows.

Our parish hall is a multi-purpose space with a commercial kitchen, often used to host children’s Sunday School, coffee hour, and community meals. This facility is also used during the week for parish-sponsored activities, including the “Caterpillar’s Class” for caregivers and toddlers, and other classes at Carillon Preschool.
